Salting Exhibitions
For over thirty years, the museum has presented salting performances on the deck of Róaldsbrakki - for the longest time every Saturday in July, but nowadays they take place all throughout the summer, according to bookings.
Local 'Herring Girls' fill barrels, demonstrate the old salting practices and revive the spirit of the old herring plants through traditional songs and dock dances, accompanied by live accordion music. Visitors can see how the herring was gutted, prepared and stored in barrels for shipping.
These shows have enjoyed great popularity among museum visitors and tourists. The past few years there have been up to fifty performances each summer.
