Guðmundur Kristjánsson
Guðmundur Kristjánsson, 1902-1994, was a young sailor. He was trained as a blacksmith and worked as such for many years. He began painting in his later years basing his work on his memories and photographs from his time as a fisherman. These 'naive' paintings present a sincere vision of his chosen subjects. Of particular interest in relation to the herring era are depictions of the arrival of Norwegian fishing boats in Siglufjörður and Grímsey and Málmey.
