ADDITION TO OUR COLLECTION - NORWEGIAN BOAT FROM THE HERRING ERA
In October 2013, a Herring-era Norwegian boat preserved in Akureyri was offered to the Herring Museum. Jón Kr. Kristjánsson has owned the boat since his youth. It was originally used by his father's canning factory 'K. Jonsson & Co.' for herring fishing in Eyjafjörður in 1950. The herring were caught and kept alive before processing in the factory. The boat, 'Little Oli', is of Norwegian descent and measures 4.2 m. long by 1.5 m. wide. The museum has acquired the boat from Jón and added it to the Boathouse exhibition.
