New website
Employees of the Herring Museum, Anita and Örlygur, have been hard at work over the past few weeks working on the new website. They have been assisted by Hugsmiðjan in Reykjavik who have provided technical support.
The new homepage is designed to be beautiful, informative and accessible. Additional content provides insight and information for prospective museum visitors.
The website of the Herring Museum first appeared in 1997 thanks to the efforts of Már Örlygsson who built the site together with his father, Örlygur Kristfinnsson Museum Director. The site remained in that form until 2010 when Anita Elefsen undertook a revision. It is hoped that this latest site will be the most useful to date. There is a new and diverse range of information presented including the a detailed history of the museum, our collection strategy, the herring era story, videos, a storefront, and much more.
We are especially grateful for the support of the Icelandic Museum Council who sponsored the website project with funding of 500.000 ISK. To them we extend our heartfelt thanks.
